I’m going to be in San Diego for the next few days. I hope my guitars (I’m taking 3) survive the Yuma desert on the way out there. The Priority band (website’s down, so no link) is playing for a camp at Point Loma. I should be excited, but I’ve done this before, and last… Continue reading California dreaming, racks, WikiTeam

Plasma brainstorming…
I’m really excited about the potential that Plasma will bring to KDE. I’m even more excited that aseigo is looking to the community for ideas and concepts. This is a brain dump I created using KJots (a very useful note-taking utility): Plasma Applet Ideas
KDE 4 Will Be Awesome
I know, you’ve heard that before. You probably heard that KDE 3 would be awesome, too. But seriously, KDE 4 is going to have major UI/usability/candy/feature improvements. The codebase is now being worked on in SVN. In the works: Plasma – a unified desktop, kicker panel, system tray, and widget framework. The existing SuperKaramba code… Continue reading KDE 4 Will Be Awesome
Package Menu Update
I’ve updated my Kubuntu Package Menu to use mktemp, a much more secure method for creating and using temporary files. The updated version, 1.3, is available for download at kde-look.org Enjoy!
Kubuntu Package Menu
I felt the need for a GUI way of installing local packages on Kubuntu. Part of my plan to GUI-ize the “last mile” of CLI (command line interface) functions in Kubuntu. I found one for Debian packages, but it was debianized and wasn’t particularly descriptive. Great GPL’d code, though, so I made my own. See… Continue reading Kubuntu Package Menu

KBerry – Blackberry Sync for Linux
No, it doesn’t exist. But boy, do a lot of people wish it did! Currently, there is no driver support whatsoever for Blackberry devices in Linux. I believe it is a combination of a few problems: the official Blackberry Windows driver/software has export restrictions (?!?!) and breaking the encryption scheme on the data may break… Continue reading KBerry – Blackberry Sync for Linux
Wired
I just found a very promising digital audio workstation for Linux. Wired is beta quality, but the screenshots look great. It is a KDE app, much like Rosegarden, so that makes me happy. I think that with the right hardware, Linux+Wired+Rosegarden could make a very happy studio. Now, if only they had Reason for Linux.… Continue reading Wired
Linux TCO?
Slashdot has an article dispelling some of the myths about Windows vs. Linux. Just reading the Yankee poll makes me seethe. That aside, now you know my camp. Do you really want to know the TCO breakdown for a small business? I’m the IT Administrator at a charter school, so I would say that we… Continue reading Linux TCO?
More Fun with Kubuntu
This is a continuation of my original Kubuntu usability post. I’ve dived much deeper into Kubuntu juice now. Here are some fun things I have working: DVD Video playback, with full 5.1 audio, in Kaffeine Media playback on the Internet, such as Apple’s Trailers and NPR Radio. However, media only plays embedded in Konqueror. Firefox… Continue reading More Fun with Kubuntu
