Day 7: On my own
Phil had to head to the new theater right after breakfast. Everyone else in group wanted to go see the awesome temple we saw yesterday, so I was on my own. Welp, I hopped in a cab, and gave him the address to Ciqikou (Sih-shih-cow) Ancient Town. I had looked it up, and it seemed pretty neat and something I could enjoy on my own. It’s supposedly an old part of town where that way of life is still preserved.
This is the entrance. Pretty cool!
It definitely had a quaint market feel to it. Tall buildings, stone street, people everywhere, shops and food enticing you.
This was definitely a popular spot to take a picture. There were Asian tourists everywhere. I actually saw two Americans though, and said “hi!”.
Ciqikou sits right on (one of) the rivers. It used to be a major river port. This part of the market seemed to be the fresh food section. I didn’t wander around there.
I went down an side street. More like up, since it was a bunch of stairs. There were no tourists, and it seemed like only locals went back there. But I found this awesome wall!
Our first show in Chonqing was tonight, so the theater is where I spent my evening. It’s the most beautiful theater yet!
It sits right on the river, and so it’s shaped like a ship. Supposedly. At night it’s all lit up and is white.
The inside is even more elaborate.
The lobby. Well, at least upstairs. There are multiple floors in every theater so far.
The house lighting in the theater.
I hung out backstage for this show, and it was fun! I helped the dancers when I could, and mostly just enjoyed watching it from a different perspective.
Laura and Sheila, both beautiful dancers.
After the show, we went to dinner as usual. We promptly passed out and both slept a good night’s sleep. Maybe we are finally adjusting to the time zone :)
